The Office of Preprofessional Advising provides advising to students and alumni who are interested in pursuing graduate education in health care and legal professions. It is a resource center for information on summer internships and fellowships that give students the opportunity to work side-by-side with professionals in their field of choice.

Through the Health Professions program students are guided toward the many opportunities to acquire the broad academic and extracurricular experience necessary for these careers.

Because no particular courses are required for admission to law school, the Law School Admissions Council states that the range of acceptable college majors is very broad as long as it includes “critical analysis, logical reasoning, and written and oral expression. What counts is the intensity and depth of your undergraduate program and your capacity to perform well at an academically rigorous level.” Lafayette’s curriculum provides rich opportunities to enjoy the sort of education that fully prepares students to study law upon graduation or thereafter. Because professors are likely to know their students well, small classes make it possible for faculty to contribute strong letters of recommendation to a student’s law school application.

In order to receive full benefits from the advising process, students are encouraged to begin participation in legal professions programming as soon as they realize they have an interest.
