Lafayette strengthens financial aid, eliminating or reducing loans in need-based aid packages for students from families with incomes up to $100,000
If you feel that you may need College assistance to
supplement your family resources in order to attend
Lafayette, you are encouraged to apply for aid.
The College has budgeted over $29 million in financial aid,
and approximately 54 percent of Lafayette students
receive College-funded aid through scholarship or
need-based grants.
- Lafayette is one of a limited number of independent
colleges and universities that guarantee to meet
the full demonstrated financial need of all students
who apply for admission and financial aid by the
appropriate deadlines. In order to provide greater
access to qualified students
regardless of their ability to
pay, the College has joined
an even smaller number of
leading liberal arts colleges
nationally in eliminating
or reducing loans in the
need-based financial-aid
packages awarded to
students from families with
incomes of up to $100,000.
- Students from families
whose incomes are less
than $50,000 and whose
financial assets are typical
of families with this annual
income level will have their
demonstrated need met in full with a package that
includes no loans and a work-study award of $1,500.
The remainder of such students’ need will be met
with grant assistance. Students from families whose
total incomes are between $50,000 and $100,000 and
whose financial assets are typical of families with this
annual income level will be packaged with loans as part
of their need-based award, but these loans will not
exceed $2,500 per year ($10,000 over four years).
- These aid policies pertain to both new and returning Lafayette students who are U.S. citizens or permanent
residents. It builds upon the College’s commitment to meet the full demonstrated financial need of
all students admitted under both early and regular
decision who submit the required documents by the
specified deadlines.
- The College’s commitment to meet the full
demonstrated financial need of students continues
through their four years at Lafayette. In order to
remain eligible for need-based aid each year, however,
the students must maintain satisfactory academic
progress, reapply for aid each year by the application
deadline, and continue to demonstrate financial
need. The level of support is based on the family’s
demonstrated need during each of the four years. Each
year’s award is based on the annual income and need
assessment for that year.
