How to Apply

First-Year Students

As a first-year applicant, you must submit the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile, tax returns, schedules, and W-2s from the student and both parents. A Noncustodial Profile also is required if applicable. Your expected family contribution is determined using information from these forms. You will also need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) In order to determine eligibility for federal and state programs.

Lafayette guarantees to meet the demonstrated financial need of students admitted under both Early and Regular Decision who adhere to the following deadlines:

Early Decision

  • File the CSS Profile online and submit 2008 tax returns and W-2s to the financial aid office as early as Oct. 1, but no later than two weeks after applying for admission.
  • File the FAFSA by Feb. 1
  • Submit 2009 tax returns and W-2s by March 15 through College Board IDOC service for a final review

Regular-Decision Applicants

  • File the CSS Profile from Oct. 1, 2009, to Feb. 1, 2010 Note: International students must file the CSS Profile by Jan. 1, 2010
  • File the FAFSA by Feb. 1 2010
  • Submit 2009 tax returns, W-2s, and applicable supplemental forms for parents and student by March 15 through College Board IDOC service

Financial aid applicants who complete the application requirements by the specified deadlines and are accepted under Lafayette’s regular admission program will be notified of aid awards within two weeks of receiving their admissions decision and no later than
April 10, 2010.

Supplemental Requirements

If a student’s parents are separated, divorced, or never married, Lafayette requires financial information from both parents. The custodial parent must file the Profile and FAFSA; the noncustodial parent must file the Noncustodial Profile. Both must submit 2009 federal tax returns along with schedules and W-2s through College Board IDOC service. Business owners must also submit corporate/partnership tax returns.

International Students

About 6 percent of each incoming class is comprised of international students (non-U.S. citizens who are not permanent residents). All international aid applicants must complete the finanical aid application by Jan 1. Lafayette recommends students submit the CSS Profile online as the preferred finanical aid application but will accept the ISFAA (International Student Finanical Aid Application) too. Lafayette meets the full demonstrated financial need of international students through a combination of loan, job, and grant aid. The awarding of aid is extremely competitive, and the need for such aid may affect the admissions decision.

Transfer Students

  • File the CSS Profile and FAFSA by April 1 for fall admission
  • File the CSS Profile and FAFSA by Oct. 1 for spring admission

Tax returns, schedules, and applicable supplemental requirements must be submitted by the above dates. College-awarded aid for transfer students is competitive, need-based, and may affect the admissions decision. Aid is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
