Finding events

There are three methods available for finding events in the calendar. They are located on the left-hand side of the calendar display page.

First, you can find upcoming events using the browse by date tool. The current and upcoming monthly calendars are presented with links on each day, week, and name of month. Select any of these links to display events from that time period. Today's date is always highlighted on the top calendar.

Our calendar is actually broken up into a number of separate calendars that act as different categories of events. When you use the browse by date tool, events will be presented from all of the separate calendars. Use the browse by calendar tool to find upcoming events within each specific calendar.

Finally, you may search the calendar to find events that match a specific calendar, keywords, or date range. This is useful for locating a very specific timeframe, or for searching past events that are not displayed using the browse tools.

Printing calendars

Printable versions of events are available from any link in the browse by date or browse by calendar tools on the left-hand side of the calendar. The printer-friendly version link located to the upper-right of the events listing will allow you to view a page specifically formatted for printing.

Adding an event

Any visitor to the Lafayette web site may submit an event to be included on the calendar of events.

If you are a member of the Lafayette community (student, faculty, or staff) and have a Lafayette ID, select the submit an event link from the Add your events section on the left-hand side. You will be permitted to add new events and then edit or delete any of the events that you have created. Any new events that you create will be immediately available for other visitors to view.

If you do not have a Lafayette ID, you may add a new event by selecting the public form link from the left-hand side. Your events will be reviewed by the Public Information office before they are available for other visitors to view. This review may take 1-2 week days.

When adding a new event, you are required to select a calendar for the event, which allows users to search for events within a specific category. A title is also required, as well as an event date. If you do not have a Lafayette ID, you will also be asked to include your email address. All other fields are optional.

The question marks on the event submission forms provide links to additional help and tips.

Editing an event

Visitors who have signed in through the manage my events link are able to review other events they have created. Each event listed in this area will have edit and delete links associated with them.

Linking to the calendar

You can create a link to any of the calendar listings, such as Arts and Events. Select the link for the specific calendar from the browse by calendar section. Select the URL for the calendar from the address bar of your web browser. Add the following HTML markup to your web page:

<a href="url.html">Link to calendar</a>

Replace url.html with the URL of the calendar listing.

Can I submit an event if I don't go to Lafayette?

Yes. Select the public form link from the Add your events section on the left. All events submitted without a Lafayette ID must be reviewed before they will become available on the calendar.

Why doesn't my event show up on the calendar?

If you have submitted an event without signing-in with a Lafayette ID, your event will have to be reviewed by the Public Information office. This will typically take 1-2 days. If your event is not approved for inclusion on the calendar, it will never show up.

When should I delete my events?

For Lafayette community users who are using the event management tools (click "Submit an event" from the main calendar), there are options available for deleting events that you have posted. If an event that you have posted has been cancelled or is otherwise no longer valid, you should delete the event from the calendar.

You do not need to remove events that have already passed. Expired events serve as an archive of what's happening at Lafayette. Events that are about one-year old will automatically be removed from the calendar archives.
