Services for Students
The Mail Center coordinates the delivery of mail to students. Each full time student is assigned a mailbox in the Farinon Center. We try to maintain the same box for your entire stay at the College.
The correct address format for students’ incoming mail is:
Student’s Name
Box ______, Lafayette College
111 Quad Drive
Easton, PA Zip Code (see below)
Proper Zipcode: for box numbers 7000-8299, use18042-1783, for box numbers 8300-9699, use18042-1784
Keys: Each student is provided a key to their mailbox at the beginning of their first year. That key is the responsibility of the student for his/her entire stay at Lafayette College. If a student does not have his/her key on a certain day, the Mail Center staff will provide the student with the mail if the student shows an appropriate picture ID. This accommodation will only be made ONCE per academic year. If a student loses the mailbox key, he/she will be charged $10 for a replacement key.
Seniors must return their mailbox key the Friday BEFORE senior week or they will be charged a fee.
Packages: Students will receive a slip in their mailboxes when they receive a package. Packages may be picked up during open hours by presenting that slip at the Mail Center window. Accountable mail (Express, Certified, Insured and Registered mail) may be also picked up with a similar slip and must be signed for by the recipient. To claim both packages and accountable mail, proper picture ID is required. Packages MUST be claimed as soon as possible. They will be returned to sender after 7 days.
Newpapers: Students receiving daily newspapers (hometown, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, etc.), should collect their mail daily. Since the mailboxes are of limited size, the Mail Center can only place two days’ worth of newspapers in any mailbox. On the third day and until the box is emptied, the newspaper will not be delivered; it will instead be recycled.
Summer: Before each summer, all students must do one of the following:
• Fill out a forwarding card to have your mail forwarded home; or
• Fill out a card to have your mail placed in your mailbox.
The student mailboxes are generally inactive for the summer months. YOU MUST inform us on how to handle your mail by submitting one of the two above cards; if not, all mail will be returned to the sender.
Outgoing Mail:
USPS: The Mail Center can assist students in sending mail via the United States Postal Service (USPS). The USPS services that are offered at the Mail Center are listed further down on this page.
Inter-Campus Mail: Mail for student mailboxes must be properly addressed with the name & box number. For mass mailings, the Mail Center will insert them into mailboxes two (2) days after receipt. No items smaller than a postcard will be accepted. Single full sheet items must be tri-folded and ˝ sheet items must be folded in half.
Services for Faculty and Staff
Currently, for the convenience of faculty and staff, College-related mail is delivered and picked-up from each department across campus at least once each day. Accountable mail (Express, Certified, Insured and Registered mail) will have a card attached to the package. This card must be signed and returned to the Mail Center as soon as possible.
All personal mail and/or packages must be picked up at the Mail Center; personal mail will not be delivered. If properly labeled, the Mail Center will try to call the recipient or the departmental secretary, if applicable, to let them know that personal mail is being held at the Mail Center.
Outgoing Mail:
Outgoing College-related mail can be charged to a departmental account if authorized by the appropriate person and the account code is provided to the Mail Center staff. Although the Mail Center will assist with sending personal mail, that mail should NOT be charged to the department; it must be paid for in cash by the sender.
USPS: The Mail Center can assist faculty and staff in sending mail via the United States Postal Service (USPS). The USPS services that are offered at the Mail Center are listed further down on this page.
Inter-Departmental Mail: All inter-departmental mail can be dropped off at the campus mail slot at the Mail Center. Please correctly label envelopes with the full name of the recipient and the department name where they work. Please do not address inter-departmental mail to buildings or rooms.
United Parcel Service (UPS): The Mail Center will assist with UPS packages being sent for college business only. Items to be sent UPS should be properly packed and dropped off at the Mail Center before 3:00 p.m. on weekdays. UPS will not be accepted on Saturdays. The UPS services available at the Mail Center are listed later on this page.
