Lafayette Campus News (www.lafayette.edu), February 11, 2008 — Donald L. Miller, MacCracken Professor of History, is appearing on a special edition of the Books of Our Time program March 8 honoring "America's Outstanding Living Historians."
Produced by the Massachusetts School of Law, this new multi-part series was created to recognize America's leading battlefield historians. Miller is only the second historian in the nation asked to appear in the new series.
Miller's session will look at his career and professional work. The program will be seen on Comcast's CN8 Television, heard on Sirius Radio in the United States and Sky Radio in the U.K., and broadcast live on the internet. In addition, the event will be recorded in front of a live studio audience.
During the program, Miller will discuss his most recent book, Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, and his book The Story of World War II.
Masters of the Air was released in October 2006 by Simon & Schuster. It is Miller’s eighth published work and third book on World War II. It examines the social and psychological effects of WWII on bomber crews of the American Eighth Air Force, German citizens, and the English people.
Miller will also talk about his work The Story of World War II, a revised, expanded, and updated version of Henry Steele Commager’s classic book, The Story of the Second World War. The Story of World War II was published in 2001 by Simon & Schuster/Lou Reda.
Books of Our Time is a public awareness program which has developed into an award-winning television series. Each program is produced and moderated by professors of the Massachusetts School of Law. On the show, leading experts and authors discuss and answer questions about a major topic in their field or important books they have written. The programs allow members of the public, including students at all levels of the educational process, to quickly become familiar with the most important ideas and facts relating to hundreds of different topics.
The first guest on the new "America's Outstanding Living Historians" series was historian James McPherson, who gave a lecture in Lafayette’s Lives of Liberty series on Feb. 4.
