Lafayette Campus News (www.lafayette.edu), February 25, 2008 — Curlee Holton, professor and head of art and director of the Experimental Printmaking Institute, has recently participated in and will be participating in exhibits across the region and on an international scale.

From Feb. 6 to March 1, new paintings by Holton are on display at the Karima Muyaes Studio in Polanco, Mexico City, Mexico. The exhibit will feature his works Baile de Amor – Dance of Love Series 1-5. The exhibit is sponsored by SoHo Creative, based in New York City.

The Dance of Love series includes five acrylic and mixed media works on canvas. They were inspired by a desire to capture the sensuality and sometime idiosyncratic nature of dance.

The pieces will also appear at the “Red Love” exhibit featuring works of erotic art by Holton, which will run from April 13 to May 11 at the Gallery 31 North in Glen Gardner, N.J. It includes prints, paintings, installations, and artist books.

Paintings include The Mask of Love series. Installation works are “Veils of Flesh” and “Eyes that Touch.”

Red Love is a series of 12 serigraphs printed from original images drawn from a live model that capture 12 hours of lovemaking. The Union is a series of 15 lithographs printed from original images that refer to various stages of marital bliss. Red Love and The Union are also bound as books.

Many of these works were first created as part of a larger exhibition also titled “Red Love” which was held in Mexico City at The Museo de Arts Tridimentional in February 2006.

From Feb. 14-17, Holton displayed two works in the National Black Arts Show in New York City. The pieces were an original drawing from the Blue Series and a work from the Rhythm & Blues series. The works document the cultural and artistic legacy of American’s music and recall the historical identity of the African American people captured through the form of song and dance.
