Thirty-Two Leopards Named to Patriot League Track and Field Academic Honor Roll
Academic Honor Roll list includes eight All-Patriot League qualifiers EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette Track and Field placed 32 student-athletes on the winter/spring edition of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The list includes eight Leopards who received All-Patriot League status. Mechanical Engineering major Paul Von Hertsenberg led the men's team with a 3.94 grade-point average (GPA). Von Hertsenberg is one of six members of the men's team with a GPA of 3.6 or higher to also earn a spot on Lafayette's Dean's List. All-Patriot League First-Team selection Kyle Clayton also qualified for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The computer science major set a school record in the 60-meter dash (6.86) and was crowned the Patriot League champion in the 60 and 200 meters at the indoor championships. On the women's side, civil engineering major Christine Wittich led the Leopards with a 3.94 GPA and is one of seven All-Patriot League selections for the women. Wittich and fellow Patriot League Academic Honor Roll honoree Brittany Waldron make up half of the distance medley relay team that finished second at the indoor championships. The academic honor roll boasts four female Patriot League champions who won titles at both the indoor and outdoor championships. Janica Austin is the lone female freshman on the list. The biology major was named the Rookie of the Meet for her victory in the 60-meter hurdles at the indoor championships. She earned the award for a second time at the outdoor championships after winning the 100-meter hurdles and finishing second in the 100 meters and 4x100 meter relay. Ashley Harbin leaves College Hill with a degree in economics & business and her name in the record books. The two-time Patriot League champion in the hammer broke the school record with a throw of 209' 0" to win the championship division at Penn Relays. She made her third trip to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the hammer and earned her first trip to the indoor national championships after claiming the league title in the 20-lb. weight. Jessica Buzzell, a Policy Studies major, set school records in the long jump for the indoor (18' 9½") and outdoor (18' 10¾") seasons. She earned All-Patriot League Second-Team honors for her second place finish at the Patriot League Indoor Championships and won the event at the outdoor championships. Osasumwen Izevbigie is one of six females to earn a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as well as the College's Dean's List. The Government and Law and Philosophy double-major broke her own school record in the shot put (48' 1¾") to win the league title at the indoor championships. She repeated her performance to win her second straight shot put title at the outdoor championships. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 GPA in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
